Bill Ludlow RIP

We were all shocked and saddened to hear of the death of Bill Ludlow on 4th July.

Bill was one of the stalwarts of the parish, and provided wise guidance on the running of the parish

His Funeral Mass took place at St Joseph's on 16th July with a packed Church, with mourners also following the service in the Church Hall.

May his Soul Rest in Peace.

Delay to the Human Fertilization and Embryology Bill

The Government has now postponed until autumn the final stages of its Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill, including debate on pro-abortion amendments. The pro-life organisations believe the government's decision was influenced by the marvellous opposition of courageous church leaders, churchgoers and supporters to this profoundly unethical Bill and, of course, the enormous public uproar the bill, with its hugely controversial proposals, has had particularly in areas such as Glasgow East, where there is a by election in two weeks' time. More help is now needed to campaign against the bill over the summer. For more information see www.passionforlife.org.uk.

This delay gives us more time to lobby MPs on the pro-abortion amendments which have been tabled.

The effects of these amendments would include:

Such amendments, if approved by Parliament, will greatly increase the numbers of abortions, increase the growing number of women harmed by abortion, and place even greater pressure on women to submit to abortion – often under pressure from boyfriends or other parties motivated by self-interest. It is important to make the HFE bill, and the proposed pro-abortion amendments, an issue for parliamentary candidates at the next general election.

Fr Kieran's Farewell

Fr Kieran is finally on the move. On 13th July he will say his last Mass in the parish and depart for pastures new to take over another composite parish centred at Ilfracombe, North Devon.

He has been with us since 2001, just after he was ordained. He bade his parishioners an affectionate farewell at his farewell party last Saturday (5th July).

When pictures become available, we will post them up on this site

Travelling Trends Fashion Show

models.jpgThe Weymouth LIFE Group have been holding "Travelling Trends" fashion shows for a couple of years now and the latest one, held at St Joseph's Hall on 10th July was another success.

About 50 women turned up for a girly night out with wine or drinks and displays of fashions at very competitive prices. The photograph shows our models parading some of the clothes.

Buying was brisk, and the LIFE Group raised £230.45 (now £240.45) from the sale of tickets, refreshments and a raffle.
